The Northwoods Ramble 12: Dogpacking with the Omnium Cargo V3

Wow, I have not published a Ramble since February. I managed to injure myself again in the process of evicting squirrels from the third floor rafters of our garage. I was moving a heavy ladder on the second floor roof when I started to slip a bit while squatting. In a effort to stop slipping and not drop the heavy ladder on our car below, I had to throw the ladder. In the process I gave myself a hernia, which kept me off the bike for weeks waiting for a doctors appointment, surgery and the recovery.

Squirrels may be the death of me… Another reason for the delay is my buddy TJ has a different work situation and no longer has time to co host with me. While listeners know I enjoy the sound of my own voice, I don’t want to produce this totally on my own. So I have a new co conspirator who never says no when I want to go bikepacking at the last minute: my dog and best buddy Cowboy.

After surgery recovery of almost 8 weeks, I’m feeling solid enough to do some serious riding again. So I’m back in the saddle and riding a cool new Omnium Cargo V3 set up for dogpacking with my buddy Cowboy.

Since the podcast will heavily focus on dogpacking with the Omnium, I thought I would restart the Northwoods Ramble with an overview of the new bike. To do that, I met with my friend Greg Smith at his Milwaukee Riverwest Shop Everyday Cycles where I got my bike and built it up.

In this first podcast, Greg and I look over how I have my bike set up for dogpacking. Then he gives an overview of a new Omnium E Mini-Max V3 he just go in the shop. We discuss the differences in the shorter wheelbase bike and how the Shimano assist with automatic shifting works.

There should not be much of a wait for me to publish Northwoods Ramble Show 13 as Cowboy and I have been riding around Seeley and Cable to get some fitness back and so he can get used to the new Omnium. And he and I have already been on a dogpacking overnighter. I’ve been shooting some video and taking photos on the training rides and the overnighter, so I have enough content to publish the next show in a week or two at the latest. Until then, check out the latest episode below.

Northwoods Ramble Show 12

After an injury that kept Seeley Dave off the bike for a few months, he is back rambling with a new co host and new direction for the show. In the intro to this episode, Dave is joined by his dog Cowboy. Later in the show Dave visits Greg Smith at Everyday Cycles in Milwaukee, where they look over Dave’s new Omnium Cargo V3, which is set up specifically for dogpacking. Greg also shows off a new Omnium E Mini-Max V3 and some cool Omnium accessories.

Thanks as always to my buddy from Butternut, Hugh Robert Masterson for allowing me to use the Northwoods song by Hugh Bob and the Hustle.

Give the podcast a watch below or on Youtube or a listen on Spotify/Apple.

The show is best viewed as a video on Spotify or YouTube to see the routes and gear we review, but you can stream just the audio if that is more convenient.

Below is a list of the Bikepacking Gear Lending Library Equipment I have available to loan as of this podcast. Email me at seeleydave2021@gmail.com if you are interested in borrowing any of it.
